The music of Rabih Abou-Khalil can not be described in one word, but is extremely accessible. The famous Lebanese composer and virtuoso on the oud (Arab lute) has a bold approach to the Arab classical music and is thus seen as an avant-gardist. Using themes and improvisation, together with rebellion. That’s why he fits in the jazz tradition. In addition, he surrounds himself for over twelve years with a solid group of musicians, the Italian accordionist Luciano Biondini, the French tuba player Michel Godard and American drummer Jarrod Cagwin. With his new album Hungry People Rabih Abou-Khalil takes a look at a greedy world. The song Dreams of a Dying City was originally written in mourning, during the Lebanese civil war and is about his hometown Beirut.
